Dextroamphetamine Sulfate Tablets Dosage and Administration
Adult
Not recommended.
Children
Avoid late evening doses; give first dose upon awakening and 1–2 more doses 4–6 hrs apart. <3yrs: not recommended. 3–5yrs: initially 2.5mg daily; may increase by 2.5mg at weekly intervals. ≥6yrs: initially 5mg 1–2 times daily; may increase by 5mg at weekly intervals; usual max 40mg/day.

Contraindications
Advanced arteriosclerosis. Cardiovascular disease. Moderate to severe hypertension. Hyperthyroidism. Glaucoma. Drug or alcohol abuse. Agitation. During or within 14 days of MAOIs. Hypersensitivity to sympathomimetics.

Tourette's syndrome. Psychosis. Mild hypertension. Seizure disorders. Monitor growth in children. Reevaluate need for therapy after drug-free interval. Prescribe limited quantity. Pregnancy (Cat.C). Nursing mothers: not recommended.

Interactions
Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs: see Contraindications. Potentiated by urinary alkalinizers (eg, some thiazides), tricyclic antidepressants, propoxyphene. Potentiates meperidine, norepinephrine, phenobarbital, phenytoin. Antagonized by acidifiers, psychotropics, lithium. Antagonizes adrenergic blockers, sedatives, antihypertensives. Monitor phenytoin, ethosuximide, phenobarbital. Convulsions with propoxyphene overdose and amphetamines. May interfere with urinary steroid tests.

Adult
Avoid late evening doses. 5–60mg daily in divided doses.
Children
Avoid late evening doses; give first dose upon awakening and 1–2 more doses 4–6hrs apart. <6yrs: not recommended. 6–12yrs: initially 5mg daily; may increase by 5mg/day at weekly intervals. ≥12yrs: initially 10mg daily; may increase by 10mg/day at weekly intervals.
