Mechanism of Action

Naloxone hydrochloride antagonizes opioid effects by competing for the same receptor sites. It reverses the effects of opioids, including respiratory depression, sedation and hypotension. It can also reverse the psychotomimetic and dysphoric effects of agonist-antagonists such as pentazocine.

Rivive Indications

Indications

For emergency treatment of opioid overdose: to “revive” someone during an overdose from many prescription pain medications or street drugs (eg, heroin).

Rivive Dosage and Administration

Adults and Children

For intranasal use only. Give a single spray intranasally into one nostril. May give additional doses (using a new nasal spray) every 2–3mins in alternate nostrils if unresponsive.

Not a substitute for emergency medical care. Seek immediate emergency medical assistance after the first dose. Monitor patients with satisfactory response due to the long duration of some narcotics.
