Rezipres Generic Name & Formulations

General Description

Ephedrine hydrochloride; 23.5mg/5mL (4.7mg/mL) soln for IV inj (premixed); 47mg/5mL (9.4mg/mL) soln for IV inj (used as provided or after dilution); 47mg/mL soln for IV inj (after dilution).

Clinically important hypotension occurring in the setting of anesthesia.

Rezipres Dosage and Administration

Give as IV bolus. Initially 4.7–9.4mg, may repeat as needed; max total dose: 47mg.

Tolerance may develop. Repeated doses may cause tachyphylaxis. Have alternative pressor agent readily available. Hypertension. Renal impairment: monitor. Elderly. Newborns. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers.

Interactions

Severe hypertension with concomitant oxytocics (eg, methylergonovine, ergonovine); monitor. Potentiated by MAOIs, clonidine, propofol, atropine; monitor. Antagonized by alpha-blockers, beta-blockers, reserpine, quinidine, mephentermine; monitor. May inhibit hypotensive effect of guanethidine; monitor and adjust dose. May reduce onset time of neuromuscular blockade when used for intubation with rocuronium if used simultaneously. May decrease efficacy of epidural blockade; monitor. Concomitant theophylline may increase frequency of nausea, nervousness, and insomnia; monitor. Concomitant digitalis glycosides may cause cardiac arrhythmias; monitor.
