Mechanism of Action

Nerve growth factor is an endogenous protein involved in the differentiation and maintenance of neurons, which acts through specific high-affinity (ie, TrkA) and low-affinity (ie, p75NTR) nerve growth factor receptors in the anterior segment of the eye to support corneal innervation and integrity.

Neurotrophic keratitis.

Adults and Children

<2yrs: not established. ≥2yrs: 1 drop in the affected eye(s) 6 times daily (at 2hr intervals) for 8 weeks.

Interactions

Allow at least 15mins between application of other topical oph agents. Administer Oxervate 15mins prior to using eye ointment, gel or other viscous eye drops.

Eye pain, corneal deposits, foreign body sensation, ocular hyperemia, eye inflammation, increased lacrimation.
