Mechanism of Action
Progestin-only oral contraceptives (eg, Opill Tablets) prevent conception by suppressing ovulation in approximately half of the cycles in users, thickening the cervical mucus to inhibit sperm penetration, lowering the midcycle LH and FSH peaks, slowing the movement of the ovum through the fallopian tubes, and altering the endometrium.

Opill Dosage and Administration
Adult
Swallow whole. Take at same time each day. 1 tab daily for 28 days; repeat. Should use a condom (or another barrier method) during the first 2 days of starting treatment.

Pre-menarche: not applicable.

Contraindications
Breast cancer or other hormone-sensitive cancers. Pregnancy (discontinue if occurs). Concomitant use with another birth control pill, vaginal ring, patch, implant, injection or an intrauterine device (IUD). Use as an emergency contraceptive. Males.

Undiagnosed abnormal uterine bleeding. Liver tumors or disease. Cancer. Evaluate if migraines with aura or worsening of migraines develop. Aspirin allergy. Discontinue if an allergic reaction occurs.

See Contraindications. Do not use Opill within 5 days after using the emergency contraceptive, Ella (ulipristal acetate). May be antagonized by barbiturates, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin, topiramate, primidone, rifampin, rifabutin, bosentan, efavirenz, St John’s Wort or any herbal products containing hypericum perforatum.
