Anthim Indications

Indications

Treatment of inhalational anthrax in combination with appropriate antibacterial drugs. Prophylaxis of inhalational anthrax when alternative therapies are not available or are not appropriate.

Limitations of Use

Only use for prophylaxis when its benefit of anthrax prevention outweighs risk of hypersensitivity and anaphylaxis. Has no direct antibacterial activity. Does not cross the blood-brain barrier. Does not prevent or treat meningitis. Pediatrics: safety and pharmacokinetics were not studied.

Anthim Dosage and Administration

Adult

See full labeling. Premedicate with diphenhydramine prior to infusion. Give as IV infusion over 90mins. >40kg: 16mg/kg.

Children

See full labeling. Premedicate with diphenhydramine prior to infusion. Give as IV infusion over 90mins. ≤15kg: 32mg/kg; >15–40kg: 24mg/kg; >40kg: use adult dose.

Warnings/Precautions

Have trained personnel and medical equipment readily available. Monitor infusion during and after administration. Discontinue immediately and treat if anaphylaxis or hypersensitivity reactions occur. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers.

Adverse Reactions

Headache, pruritus, infections of the upper respiratory tract, cough, vessel puncture site bruise, infusion site swelling, nasal congestion, infusion site pain, urticaria, pain in extremity.
