Indications

Iron deficiency anemia in adults with chronic kidney disease not on dialysis.

Auryxia Dosage and Administration

Adult

Swallow whole. Take with meals. Initially 1 tab three times daily; titrate as needed to achieve hemoglobin target levels; max 12 tabs/day.

Contraindications

Iron overload syndromes (eg, hemochromatosis).

Monitor serum phosphorus. Assess iron parameters (eg, serum ferritin, TSAT) prior to initiation and monitor during therapy. Accidental iron overdose (esp. in children <6yrs); may be fatal. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers.

Concomitant IV iron; may require dose reduction or discontinuation of IV therapy. Give doxycycline at least 1hr before Auryxia. Give ciprofloxacin at least 2hrs before or after Auryxia. Concomitant drugs with narrow therapeutic range; consider monitoring.

Diarrhea, discolored feces, constipation, nausea, vomiting, cough, abdominal pain, hyperkalemia; iron overload.

Auryxia Dosage and Administration

Adult

Swallow whole. Take with meals. Initially 2 tabs three times daily; titrate in decrements or increments of 1–2 tabs daily as needed at 1-week or longer intervals to maintain target levels; max 12 tabs/day.
