The mechanism of action of cantharidin in the treatment of molluscum contagiosum is unknown.

Ycanth Indications

Indications

To treat molluscum contagiosum in patients ≥2yrs.

Ycanth Dosage and Administration

Adults and Children

<2yrs: not established. ≥2yrs: apply 1 single application to cover each lesion; max 2 applicators per treatment session. Remove with soap and water 24hrs post-treatment. Give every 3 weeks, as needed. Do not occlude.

Warnings/Precautions

Not for oral, mucosal, ophthalmic use. Toxicities associated with inappropriate administration. Avoid oral contact and touching lesions post-treatment. May cause ocular toxicity. Avoid near the eyes, mucosal tissues, and to adjacent healthy skin. Avoid other topical agents (eg, creams, lotions, sunscreen) on treated areas until 24hrs post-treatment or until washing. Remove prior to the 24hrs post-administration if severe blistering, pain or other severe adverse reactions occur. Flammable. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers: avoid areas with risk for potential ingestion or by ocular exposure to child.
