Indications
Adjunct in severe acne.
Doryx Mpc Dosage and Administration
Adult
Swallow whole. Take with fluids; may give with food or milk if gastric irritation occurs. 120mg every 12hrs for 1 day, then 120mg daily (as a single dose or 60mg every 12hrs). Switching from Doryx to Doryx MPC: see full labeling.
Children
≤8yrs: not usually recommended. Swallow whole. Take with fluids; may give with food or milk if gastric irritation occurs. >8yrs (<45kg): 5.3mg/kg in 2 divided doses for 1 day, then 2.6mg/kg daily (as a single dose or divided as 2 doses); (≥45kg): use Adult dose. Switching from Doryx to Doryx MPC: see full labeling.
Administration
Do not substitute on a mg-per-mg basis with other oral doxycyclines.

Warnings/Precautions
Not substitutable on a mg-per-mg basis with other oral doxycyclines. Discontinue if severe skin reactions, superinfection develops. Overweight women. History of intracranial hypertension. Perform ophthalmic exam if visual disturbances occur. Monitor blood, renal, and hepatic function in long-term use. Avoid sun or UV light. Children ≤8yrs: weigh benefits vs risks; reserve use only for severe or life-threatening conditions (eg, anthrax, Rocky Mountain spotted fever) when no alternative therapies exist. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers.

Absorption reduced by antacids containing aluminum, calcium, magnesium, bismuth subsalicylate, iron. May be antagonized by barbiturates, carbamazepine, phenytoin. May antagonize oral contraceptives. May interfere with fluorescence test.

Doryx Mpc Indications
Indications
Tetracycline-susceptible infections including respiratory, genitourinary, rickettsial, trachoma, specific bacterial (eg, relapsing fever). Alternative for selected infections when penicillin is contraindicated. Anthrax including inhalational anthrax (postexposure).
Doryx Mpc Dosage and Administration
Adult
Swallow whole. Take with fluids; may give with food or milk if gastric irritation occurs. 120mg every 12hrs for 1 day; then 120mg daily (as a single dose or 60mg every 12hrs); if severe infections (eg, chronic UTI): 120mg every 12hrs. Streptococcal infections: treat for 10 days. Uncomplicated urethral, endocervical, rectal infection, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU): 120mg twice daily for 7 days. Uncomplicated gonococcal infections (except anorectal infections in men): 120mg twice daily for 7 days or 360mg as single dose followed by a second 360mg dose 1hr later. Acute epididymo-orchitis: 120mg twice daily for at least 10 days. Syphilis (allergic to penicillin): Early: 120mg twice daily for 2 weeks; >1yr duration: treat for 4 weeks. Anthrax: 120mg twice daily for 60 days. Switching from Doryx to Doryx MPC: see full labeling.
